Welcome to the 2007 Northwest
Glaciologists web page. We are pleased to host the event and
hope you all
can make it to Portland, Oregon. It's a great city (check out the Lonely Planet
guide
book for the USA) and the rains shouldn't start for another week or two.
Maps:
For
directions
to Portland State
University.
For a campus map.
There is also a parking
map for more details on parking.
For a
general
map
of Portland, including additional lodging locations, freeways, attractions(!)
Parking:
Street parking is a possibility if you are
willing to feed the parking meters ($1/hour).
Some meters have maximum
parking times 15 minutes, others 3 hours, and if you are lucky,
even 4 or 5 hours. As I recently discovered, you can't keep
feeding the meter, the car has to
be moved off the block.
The only campus parking lot available
for all day parking (and the one recommended) is "Parking
Structure
3" on the west side of campus. It costs $8/day on Friday, $3 on Saturday and
they only
accept cash (American cash, sorry!). If you take I-405 (off I-5) south of the Willamette River,
take
the SW 12th Street exit (just after the SW 6th exit) and the parking structure is on the
left.
Danger: The 12th Street exit is shared by the on-ramp to Rt. 26 west and
if you are not careful, you will be taking a drive to the
coast for a couple of miles before you can turn around.
The University has short-term
parking on campus. Both meters (coins) and "Pay-to-Park" (coins,
bills,
credit cards) are located at College and Broadway (next to the tennis courts) and street level of
'
Ondine'
housing, between 5th and 6th on College St. Also meters are located on the street levels
of
Parking Structures One and Two. Pay-to-park locations are the Art Building Lot, 1990 SW
5th Avenue
and Parking Structure 3, 1st Floor. Campus meters and pay-to-park spaces are for
short term parking
of 4 hours or less, disabled meters 8 hours or less. Unlike "da
city", you can keep plugging the meters
and "pay-to-park" and remain in the same parking spot.
There is one commercial lot on the north side of campus, on
the north (left) side of Market Street
around
the corner from Structure 3 (Market is one way east) for about the same price as campus
parking and the machine accepts credit cards.
